Origin: Japan, Korea, Taiwan

Botanical characteristics: It is a big deciduous tree with a large crown, growing up to 30 m in height. It has a grey, smooth bark that peels off in orange patches when it grows old. The leaves are from ovate to lanceolate, toothed, dark green. In autumn it takes a beautiful colour changing from yellow to orange and red. It is a monoecious plant with insignificant male and female flowers separated but on the same plant.

Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It prefers deep, fertile, moist and well-drained soils and adapts well to dry soils and resists air pollution.

Use: It is cultivated as ornamental plant for its growth habit, its beautiful leaves and its autumn nuances. It is used as a single plant in parks and large gardens and is really suitable for avenues.
