Origin: Western China.
Botanical characteristics: It is a large rounded evergreen shrub, having large elliptical leaves, which are 15 cm long and whole margins. Leaves are leathery, glossy, dark green with 3 flashy veins. In early summer it blooms small tubular flowers grouped in inflorescences of 10-15 cm. Fruits occur later and are oval, black-blue and shiny.
Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It adapts to any fertile and moist soil, but well-drained. Full-shade exposure is required.
Use: It is ideal for mixed hedges.
