Origin: East Asia.
Botanical characteristics: It is a medium-sized deciduous tree, fast-growing, up to 20 meters high. Wide and erect crown with long and deeply divided shoots. Leaves are small, no longer than 3-4 cm, their shape is strictly elliptic or ovate-lanceolate, they are toothed, smooth and hairless, dark green on the upper surface, lighter and pubescent on the lower surface. In autumn they turn yellow. In early spring they bears small red flowers in inflorescences. Later, green samaras with a wing of about 1 cm appear.
Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It prefers cool, deep and well-drained soil, but it has no special needs. It has an high resistance to drought and air pollution.
Use: It is suitable for urban green areas, to cover road embankments or in slopes. It is ideal for tree-lined avenues and suitable for afforestation of barren and abandoned areas.
