Origin: China, Japan.
Botanical characteristics: This small deciduous shrub is brushy, round, fast-growing. Leaves are ovate or lanceolate, toothed, red-bronze when young, then golden-yellow, finally green. In late spring and early summer it blooms deep pink flowers clustered in corymbs.
Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It prefers fertile, moist, well-drained soils but can adapt to all types of land. It has an high resistance to drought, salinity, pollution.
Use: It is very ornamental for its flowering and crown colouring. It is used for borders, free low hedges, in combination with other shrubs in parks and gardens or as ground cover. It is the ideal in urban green areas, especially in traffic islands and to cover road embankments and river banks.
