Botanical characteristics: It is a shrub with creeping and spreading growth habit. It is no bigger than 1 meter in height. Leaves are obovate, silver. It is a dioecious plant with male and female inflorescences in catkins, on separated plants. They occur in spring on bare branches and the yellow stamens of the male inflorescences makes the plant ornamental.
Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It grows spontaneously in northern Italy on moist, sandy areas near the sea.
Use: It is an excellent groundcover.
