Botanical characteristics: It is a deciduous tree with spreading bushy crown. It grows rapidly, up to 15 meters high. Leaves are oval-elliptic, up to 12 cm long, finely toothed, dark green and shiny on the upper side and lighter below. It is a dioecious plant with yellow male inflorescences in catkins, and female, shorter and green, on separated plants.
Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It is spontaneous in the Alps between 500 and 1800 meters above the sea level, along streams, on moist and peat soils.
Use: It is used along rivers. It is used to coat moist slopes and reforest the uncultivated moist areas.
