Origin: Northeast America

Botanical characteristics: It is medium-sized deciduous tree. It is moderate to rapidly growing tree, up to 20 meters high and has a largely columnar to rounded crown. Leaves are elliptical and deeply lobed, with toothed, dark green lobes, up to 15 cm long. Beautiful red colour in autumn. Acorns are from ovoid to nearly spherical.

Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It adapts to deep, fertile and well-drained soils, but it does not tolerate calcareous ones.

Use: In parks and large gardens it is used primarily as an ornamental plant, mainly for the colour of autumn leaves or as an isolated exemplary, in groups, for groves.
