Origin: Japan.
Botanical characteristics: It is a small deciduous tree with spreading crown. Leaves are elliptic or ovate, serrated, dark green, bronze when young, yellow in autumn. In spring, the beautiful and delicate flowering occurs before the leaves and bears 2 cm wide, cup-shaped, white or pale pink flowers grouped together in bunches of 2-5. Then, they are followed by fruits like cherries, first red then almost black.
Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It is suitable for different soils, if well-drained.
Use: It is used as ornamental plant in parks and gardens as single species or in groups on the lawn.
