Origin: Japan.
Botanical characteristics: It is a medium-sized deciduous tree, up to 20 meters high, with spreading growth habit. Leaves are elliptical to lanceolate, serrated, dark green, red when young, orange and red in autumn. In spring, cup-shaped flowers bloom grouped in umbrellas of 2-4 pale pink flowers, followed by fruits like red and shiny cherries.
Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It adapts to moderately fertile, moist but well-drained soils with full sun exposure.
Use: It is used singly or in group as ornamental plant in parks and gardens. In addition, it is used in urban green spaces along roads.
