Origin: South-eastern Europe.
Botanical characteristics: It is a magnificent vigorous tree, deciduous, with very spreading crown, reaches 30 meters in height. It has a bark from grey-brown to white-cream that peels off in flakes, more rough and lumpy than Platanus x acerifolia. Its leaves are deeply cut into five lobes, narrower and more serrated than Platanus x acerifolia, glossy green, up to 25 cm long. Is a monoecious plant,
it blooms in May on separated male and female inflorescences. Has infructescenses spheroidal brought by long peduncles number of 3-6, persistent all winter.
Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It prefers deep and fertile soils that are fresh and well-drained. However, it can adapt to all type of soils, including the highly calcareous ones. It requires full sun exposure. Its degree of resistance to water stagnation and urban pollution is high.
Use: It has been planted for long as shadow plant in the courtyards, squares and along the boulevards. It is ideal for parks and gardens as single specimen or in groups.
