Origin: North America.
Botanical characteristics: It is a moderate to rapidly growing evergreen conifer, which can reach 30 meters in height. It has a conical growth habit with branches in whorl on the stem, mostly horizontally arranged. Its thin needles are clustered in bundles of 5, up to 15 cm long and are curvy in the tufts on the branches. It is a monoecious plant with male and female flowers that are separated but on the same plant. The cones are peduncle, curved towards the apex, up to 20 cm long.
Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It prefers fresh, deep, slightly acid soils and does not tolerate calcareous and clay ones.
Use: It is frequently cultivated and used in parks and gardens as ornamental plant. It is also used for reforestation.
