Origin: Tropical Regions.
Botanical characteristics: It is a rhizomatous herb that is vigorous and invasive and has straight, thin but strong stems. The leaves are rigid, linear, pointed, up to 60 cm long. They are greyish-green and turn golden in autumn. In late summer it produces spikelets gathered in brown-red feathery panicles.
Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It requires moist and deep soils.
Use: It is used along the banks of large water mirror for river strengthening banks and as a shelter for aquatic fauna. It is used for phyto-purification systems, too.
