Origin: Japan.
Botanical characteristics: It is a medium-sized evergreen shrub that is rounded and compact. The elliptic or oval leaves are leathery, dark green, up to 10 cm long. The buds are red-bronze. It has an abundant summer bloom of small white flowers in flat bunches that are 10 cm broad. The flowering is followed by round blackish-red fruits.
Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It prefers fresh, sandy, moist but well-drained soils. It adapts well to dry and moderately calcareous ones.
Use: It supports any type of pruning. It forms beautiful compact formal and mixed hedges. It is suitable for pots and planters.
