Origin: Japan.
Botanical characteristics: It is a large evergreen compact upright shrub. Leaves are dark green, shiny, leathery, oval to elliptical, 5-6 cm long. They are toothed, thorny and very similar to the Holly. The leaves on the upper branches have often entire margin. It has an autumn flowering of small clusters of fragrant white flowers at the leaf axil.
Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It adapts to any soil.
Use: It is used in parks and gardens as individual exemplary, in groups or in mixed hedges. It is excellent for pots and planters.
