Origin: Japan, China, Korea.

Botanical characteristics: It is a perennial evergreen herbaceous plant that grows slowly. It forms compact, glossy and dark green tufts. The leaves are linear, curved, leathery, 20-30 cm long. The summer blooming has bell-shaped white flowers that are barely visible.

Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It prefers moist but well drained and slightly acid soils. It has good resistance to drought and air pollution. It needs shade or partial sun exposure.

Use: It was traditionally used in historic gardens in the English manner. It is the ideal as groundcover at the bottom of evergreen trees, for borders of flowerbeds and shaded paths. In urban as groundcovers and escarpments. It is an interesting solution where there is no vegetation owing to the lack of light.
