Origin: China.
Botanical characteristics: It is an medium-sized evergreen shrub. It is similar to the Mahonia japonica but this one has leaves consisting of oblong leaflets with a broad base and are greenish-blue and glossy, while in winter-flowering they are yellow and grouped in erect racemes, which are shorter and stiffer.
Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It has no particular requirements of soil type and tolerates calcareous soils, too. It prefers shade or partial shade exposure but tolerates full sun.
Use: It is used in all along gardens, in groups, in mixed hedges and is suitable for the undergrowth.
