Origin: Western Asia, Southern Europe.
Botanical characteristics: It is a large deciduous shrub or small tree up to 10 m high, with young silver branches . Sometimes it is thorny. Leaves are lanceolate, grey-green on the upper side and silver and tomentose underneath. Very fragrant silvery yellow tubular flowers bloom in June in the leaf axils of young branches. Ovoid fruits are fleshy, silvery-yellow and sweet.
Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It grows well in any fertile soil, except the calcareous ones. It is resistant to wind and marine climate. It needs full sun.
Use: It is used primarily for hedges and windbreaks. It is recommended in exposed and sea areas. It is also used for mixed hedges in gardens. It is an interesting plant for the fragrance of its flowers.
