Origin: North America.

Botanical characteristics: It is a small deciduous tree, about 10 m high with a broad crown. It has often multiple trunks. It has large heart-shaped leaves with pointed apex. They are bronze when young, yellow in autumn. Showy spring flowering blooms on bare branches before the leaves and consists of small pink/purple flowers, gathered in clusters of 2-8 flowers each.

Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It prefers fertile deep and moist but well drained soils, in sun or in partial shade position.

Use: It is cultivated as an ornamental plant in Europe. It is used in gardens as single plant or in borders with other shrubs.
