Origin: Mediterranean Regions.
Botanical characteristics: It is a medium-sized shrub up to 3 mt high. Leaves are oval-elliptic with serrated margin, dark green on the upper side and white woolly on the underside. Flowers are white with short and erect racemes and they bloom in April-May. They are smaller than the one of the other Amelanchier but of longer duration. Its fruit is ovoid, red first and then black.
Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It is suitable for any well-drained, calcareous soil. It needs full sun.
Use: It is used for reforestation of too rocky and calcareous lands. Moreover, in natural reserves.
