Origin: Eastern regions of North America.
Botanical characteristics: It is a large fast-growing tree, up to 15-20 mt high if cultivated and with columnar growth habit. The leaves are dark green, about 10 cm long, with 3-5 lobes and serrated edge. It is cultivated in Europe because of the magnificent colour of its leaves in autumn, which become a bright red and then they turn yellow and orange. Its flowering is composed of dense clusters of red ornamental flowers, followed by samaras, which are red as well.
Agronomic and environmental characteristics: It prefers cool and moist soils. It shows chlorosis in soils with alkaline ph and it doesn’t change colour in autumn. It has an high resistance to pollution.
Use: It is used in the public parks and boulevards and private gardens.
